Casal Vegri is quite unique, it is an east facing vineyard at between 150-300m whose best fruit is always destined for Valpolicella Superiore, never Amarone. The Casal Vegri and Decennale start their lives as the same wine, organic viticulture, hand-picked and fermented in temperature controlled tanks, the wine is then aged in 3000 litre botti.
The difference is that the Casal Vegri is aged for 18 months, the Decennale for 10 years. This extended ageing is extraordinary by any standards, the great Giacomo Conterno only treated his Monfortino to 10 years in oak in the very best years; for a Valpolicella Superiore to be the subject of such devotion is unheard of.
Only the 2008 and 2010 vintages have been released so far as Decennale.
